Read and practise the chapter’s sequence
Begin with the text and let present practice—not a natal score—be the field of discernment.
1. Lift the self; do not lower it · BG 6.5
Textual teaching: The verse directs self-uplift and names the self as its own friend and its own adversary.
Reader practice: Notice which present action steadies the mind and which action degrades it; choose the steadying action without assigning yourself a spiritual rank.
2. Prepare place, seat, senses, and attention · BG 6.10-12
Textual teaching: The sequence names seclusion, restraint, freedom from expectation and accumulation, a clean stable seat, one-pointed attention, and disciplined senses.
Reader practice: Choose a clean, stable, undisturbed place and a sustainable seated practice. Treat historical seat materials through context rather than as a universal modern prescription.
3. Reject excess; practise moderation · BG 6.16-17
Textual teaching: Krishna rejects extremes of eating, fasting, sleep, and wakefulness and affirms measured food, recreation, action, sleep, and waking.
Reader practice: Build a repeatable rhythm that does not depend on deprivation, exhaustion, or astrological timing. Medical or dietary needs require qualified care, not a verse-derived diagnosis.
4. Return the wandering mind · BG 6.26
Textual teaching: Whenever the restless, unsteady mind wanders, the instruction is to restrain it and bring it back.
Reader practice: The return itself is the practice. Record consistency if useful, but do not convert distraction or return-counts into a measure of realization or human worth.
5. Contemplate equal vision · BG 6.29-32
Textual teaching: These verses describe seeing the Self in all beings, all beings in the Self, Krishna everywhere, and another’s pleasure and pain through comparison with oneself.
Reader practice: Let conduct toward beings test the contemplation. A horoscope, aspect count, or self-description cannot certify sama-darśana.
6. Abhyāsa and vairāgya · BG 6.35-36
Textual teaching: Krishna acknowledges the restless mind and names practice and dispassion; he then contrasts the uncontrolled mind with striving through appropriate means.
Reader practice: Return regularly and loosen attachment to results. Neither abhyāsa nor vairāgya is a planetary quantity, and no fixed-day challenge guarantees the state described.
BG 6.37-45 · Arjuna’s question and Krishna’s assurance
Arjuna’s question · BG 6.37-39
Krishna’s answer · BG 6.40-45
- Arjuna asks what becomes of one who has faith but whose mind has moved away from yoga before attaining its perfection (BG 6.37-39).
- Krishna first answers that such a doer of good is destroyed neither here nor hereafter and does not come to a bad end (BG 6.40).
- The following verses speak of worlds of the meritorious, births in pure/prosperous or wise-yogin households, reconnection with former understanding and practice, renewed striving, and culmination across many births (BG 6.41-45).
Translation boundary: Terms such as yoga-bhraṣṭa, śucīnām, śrīmatām, paurva-dehikam, and parāṁ gatim must remain available for word-level and named-commentary study. One concise English rendering must not be presented as the only interpretive tradition.
Personal-assignment boundary: Vidhyamitra does not infer that a living reader is a yoga-bhraṣṭa, prove a former birth, identify a former family or practice, measure carried saṁskāras, or predict rebirth from a horoscope. BG 6.37-45 is preserved as Krishna’s teaching, not converted into a natal classifier.
BG 6.47 · The bhakta-yogī culmination
Among all yogins, the one who, with inner self gone to Me, worships Me with faith is considered by Me the most deeply united.
Truth boundary: The verse states Krishna’s teaching about the yogin who worships Him with faith. Vidhyamitra does not score whether a named reader has attained this condition or is dearer, higher, saved, liberated, or spiritually superior.
Chapter-wide truth boundary: BG 6 remains a teaching and practice sequence. Birth data and planetary placements do not measure yogārūḍha status, meditation aptitude, abhyāsa, vairāgya, sama-darśana, past lives, carried saṁskāras, divine favour, or spiritual worth.
