🪷 Lagna and Tithi — Calculation and Scripture Boundaries

Calculated quantity · traditional interpretation · scripture reading · empirical claim — kept distinct

पिताहमस्य जगतो माता धाता पितामहः।
वेद्यं पवित्रमोङ्कार ऋक् साम यजुरेव च॥
"I am the father of this world, the mother, the supporter, the grandfather, the knowable, the purifier, the syllable Om, and also the Ṛk, the Sāma, and the Yajus." — Bhagavad Gītā 9.17
BG 9.17 and the maternal teaching — Krishna names Himself as father, mother, supporter, and grandfather. Taittirīya Upaniṣad 1.11.2 teaches mātṛ devo bhava. These are source readings, not evidence that lagna or tithi identifies a person's cosmic origin.
मातृ देवो भव।
"Honor your mother as God." — Taittirīya Upaniṣad 1.11.2

What the calculation actually establishes

Lagna is the ecliptic degree rising on the eastern horizon for the supplied time and place. Tithi is computed from the Sun-Moon elongation, divided into twelve-degree segments. These are reproducible model quantities; they do not empirically reveal a soul's previous loka, future destination, health condition, or moral worth.

Tithi index = floor(normalized Moon − Sun longitude ÷ 12°) + 1

Responsible use

Treat the output as a transparent traditional computation and a prompt for study, remembrance, and ethical reflection. Do not use it to diagnose health, rank persons, claim certainty about past lives, or replace qualified spiritual, medical, legal, or scientific guidance.

मातृ देवो भव। पितृ देवो भव। आचार्य देवो भव। अतिथि देवो भव॥
"Honor your mother as God. Honor your father as God. Honor your teacher as God. Honor your guest as God." — Taittirīya Upaniṣad 1.11.2

Sources and Connected Readings

These links keep the calculation, BG 9.17, the BG 8 remembrance and two-path teaching, and the Taittirīya mother-ācārya instruction available in their own source contexts.

The date and chart calculators report model quantities. They do not select a departure path, certify remembrance, reveal a prior loka, or predict a destination.

Lagna and tithi are calculated model quantities. The connected scripture readings do not convert them into claims about soul origin, destination, health, morality, or spiritual attainment.
