🪷 Lagna and Tithi — Calculation and Scripture Boundaries
Calculated quantity · traditional interpretation · scripture reading · empirical claim — kept distinct
What the calculation actually establishes
Lagna is the ecliptic degree rising on the eastern horizon for the supplied time and place. Tithi is computed from the Sun-Moon elongation, divided into twelve-degree segments. These are reproducible model quantities; they do not empirically reveal a soul's previous loka, future destination, health condition, or moral worth.
Tithi index = floor(normalized Moon − Sun longitude ÷ 12°) + 1
Traditional interpretation boundary
- Lagna, Chandra, and Sūrya have received interpretive roles in jyotiṣa traditions; the application reports those roles as tradition, not laboratory science.
- BG 8.23-26 names śukla and kṛṣṇa paths. Commentary traditions differ on literal, symbolic, and contemplative readings; the computed calendar state alone does not prove liberation or rebirth.
- Bhīṣma's waiting for Uttarāyaṇa is a Mahābhārata narrative. This page does not assign it an independently verified civil date.
- No received source reviewed for this route establishes a one-to-one mapping from the fifteen tithis to fifteen lokas or from a lagna degree to a soul's prior abode.
Responsible use
Treat the output as a transparent traditional computation and a prompt for study, remembrance, and ethical reflection. Do not use it to diagnose health, rank persons, claim certainty about past lives, or replace qualified spiritual, medical, legal, or scientific guidance.

Sources and Connected Readings
These links keep the calculation, BG 9.17, the BG 8 remembrance and two-path teaching, and the Taittirīya mother-ācārya instruction available in their own source contexts.
The date and chart calculators report model quantities. They do not select a departure path, certify remembrance, reveal a prior loka, or predict a destination.

BG 8.7 joins remembrance with action. The verse remains available in full; no tithi or ayana is treated here as a spiritual-status switch.

Lagna and tithi are calculated model quantities. The connected scripture readings do not convert them into claims about soul origin, destination, health, morality, or spiritual attainment.
