[Uddhava sang:] Among all persons on earth, these cowherd women alone have actually perfected their embodied lives, for they have achieved the perfection of unalloyed love for Lord Govinda. Their pure love is hankered after by those who fear material existence, by great sages, and by ourselves as well. For one who has tasted the narrations of the infinite Lord, what is the use of taking birth as a high-class brāhmaṇa, or even as Lord Brahmā himself?

‘इस पृथ्वीपर केवल इन गोपियोंका ही शरीर धारण करना श्रेष्ठ एवं सफल है; क्योंकि ये सर्वात्मा भगवान् श्रीकृष्णके परम प्रेममय दिव्य महाभावमें स्थित हो गयी हैं। प्रेमकी यह ऊँची-से-ऊँची स्थिति संसारके भयसे भीत मुमुक्षुजनोंके लिये ही नहीं, अपितु बड़े-बड़े मुनियों—मुक्त पुरुषों तथा हम भक्तजनोंके लिये भी अभी वाञ्छनीय ही है। हमें इसकी प्राप्ति नहीं हो सकी। सत्य है, जिन्हें भगवान् श्रीकृष्णकी लीला-कथाके रसका चसका लग गया है, उन्हें कुलीनताकी, द्विजातिसमुचित संस्कारकी और बड़े-बड़े यज्ञ-यागोंमें दीक्षित होनेकी क्या आवश्यकता है? अथवा यदि भगवान्की कथाका रस नहीं मिला, उसमें रुचि नहीं हुई, तो अनेक महाकल्पोंतक बार-बार ब्रह्मा होनेसे ही क्या लाभ?॥ ५८॥
