🪷 Nāmakaraṇa · Krishna's naming by Garga-Muni
Garga-Muni performed Krishna's nāmakaraṇa secretly in Nanda's house at Gokula · giving him the names Vāsudeva, Govinda, Mukunda. Bhāgavata 10.8.12-19 records the naming-revelation: "this child has appeared in every yuga in different complexions · He is your absolute Lord."

Dharmic Purpose
To formally name the child · the name is not arbitrary — it is selected based on the nakshatra-pāda of birth (so the first syllable matches the appropriate sound-vibration), the family tradition, and a deity-aspect the child is consecrated to. The name becomes a daily mantra invoking that deity-aspect.

Ritual Essence
The pandita determines the nāma-akṣara from the Moon-nakshatra of birth · four names are traditionally given: (1) deity-name (devatā-nāma), (2) month-name (māsa-nāma), (3) family-tradition-name (kula-devatā-name), (4) the everyday vyavahārika-name. The chosen vyavahārika-name is announced.
Modern Adaptation
Often performed alongside the 11th-day āśauca-clearance ceremony · the nakshatra-akṣara is consulted via pandita or chart-software · close family witness the naming · the name is whispered in the child's ear and then announced.

NAME FIRST-SYLLABLE matches the child's birth-nakshatra-pāda (e.g., Aśvinī-pāda-1 = "Chu" or "Cu") · this aligns the vibrational name with the natal sound-field · avoid Tuesday, Saturday
