What is Dhan Yoga in Astrology? (Dhan Yog)

Dhan Yoga in Astrology

Dhan in Hindi means “money”. Dhan yoga means ‘wealth giving yoga’. Dhan Yoga refers to those planetary combinations that indicate the wealth, prosperity and fortune in one’s life. It is perhaps the most analysed yoga as money matters excite everyone. Each person is curious to know about the wealth that he will accumulate and earn in his life span.

The strongest dhan yoga formed in a horoscope occurs between 2nd and 11th house lords, 11th being the strongest. The other houses that are involved are the 5th and 9th houses.

Conditions for Dhan Yoga in Astrology

Certain combinations that may create dhan yoga are :

  • If 2nd house lord is in 11th house and 11th house lord is in 2nd house.
  • If the ascendant lord is placed in the 10th house.
  • Any parivartana yoga occurring between 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11 house (parivartana yoga is the exchange lord of two houses).
  • If 2nd house lord is in 5th house and 5th house lord is in 2nd house.
  • If 11th house lord is in 5th house and 5th house lord is in 2nd, 11th or 9th house.
  • If there is a conjunction between 2nd and 11th house lord in Kendra or Trikona.
  • If there is a conjunction between 9th with 2nd house and 11th house lord in Kendra or Trikona.
  • If 11th house lord in conjunction with Kendra or Trikona Lord.
  • Rahu and Ketu placed in the 2nd, and 11th house also gives powerful dhan yoga, especially if they are in conjunction with the 2nd or 11th house lord.
  • The 2nd, 5th, 9th or 11th lord is aspecting each other while in Kendra, Trikona or 2nd and 11th house creates a dhan yoga.

Houses Affecting Dhan Yoga

Reading a horoscope or a birth chart is a technical task as all the houses and planets portray different features and behaviours. In order to determine the dhan yoga of a native, houses that need to be carefully analysed are the 11th and 2nd houses.

The 11th house indicates incoming gains and wealth, whereas the 2nd house determines the savings and accumulation of wealth of a native. If the 2nd house is strong and the 11th house is weak, then there is no point of having the ability to save when there are no incoming gains. Similarly, if the 2nd house is weak and the 11th house is strong, the gains and wealth are wasted as there are no savings and the money is easily flushed out.

If an exalted planet aspect, sits or is in conjunction with the 11th house lord in Kendra, Trikona, 2nd or 11th house, then it will give wealth during its maha and antar dasha.

The 5th or 9th house may also play a part in determining the Dhan Yoga of a native because these houses indirectly influence the money related matters in a native’s life. 5th house indicates speculative careers like the stock market, lotteries, betting, cinema etc. On the other hand, the 9th house is the house of luck, fortune and blessings. It shows how fortunate one can be in his life to make money.

Sudden wealth is also seen through Vipreet Raj Yoga (reversal of bad fortune), which occurs when the lord of 6th, 8th and 12th houses is sitting in the 6th, 8th or 12th house.

Ascendant Lord and Dhan Yoga

Ascendant lord also is an essential factor of receiving dhan yoga. If the ascendant lord is in conjunction with the 2nd and 11th lord while sitting in 2nd, 11th, Kendra or Trikona, then in its mahadasha and antar dasha, the native will receive wealth if these planets are not debilitated or in enemy sign. If Ascendant lord is in conjunction with 5th or 9th house, that too makes a powerful dhan yoga.

For Leo ascendant, if Moon (lord of the 12th house) is sitting in the 6th house, then it creates a Vipreet Raj yoga. The native will sudden gain a lot of wealth in their life.
