She is the true embodiment of peace, beauty, fertility, sacrifice, struggles and endurance. She is also known as ‘Shwethambardhara’ as she is always seen in white clothes. - Best day to perform Maa Mahagauri aarti will be the eighth day of Navratri, as she is the eighth form of Goddess Durga, among all the nine Goddesses.
- The Abhijeet, Vijay and Godhuli Muhrat in the day is considered best for the aarti, which will vary every year according to the hindu calendar and panchang.
- At home, one can perform Mahagauri aarti in morning as well as in the evening after taking bath and wearing clean clothes.
Offerings in Maa Mahagauri Aarti
- Maa Mahagauri is offered kumkum, red chunri cloth and shringar with haldi kumkum before the aarti.
- Yellow flowers can be offered at her feet for the pooja.
- Prasad or Bhog of chickpeas, halwa and puri is offered during Mahagauri pooja.
- A deepak or diya filled with ghee should be lightened with camphor in any earthen diya during the aarti.
- Shankh should be blown and bells should be ringing during the pooja and after the completion of aarti with reading Durga Saptashati.
- White clothes should be worn during the Mahagauri pooja and aarti, as she is ‘Swethambhardhara’.
Pooja Vidhi for Maa Mahagauri Aarti
- Place the idol of Maa Mahaguari near the kalash and perform the pakshal (washing the idol) with gangajal and rose petals.
- After pakshal pat dry the idol with clean cloth and offer white coloured flowers with ghee diya in front of Maa Mahagauri.
- The kanjak pooja is performed on this day when little girls are invited to home and served food or prasad symbolizing purity.
- The prasad or food prepared should contain sweets which should be offered to Mahagauri before the pooja and then distributed as prashad.
Pooja Mantra or Dhyan Mantra
- The Pooja Mantra or Jaap (Dhyan Mantra) hold significance for the meditating purposes and peace in the spiritual lifestyle of the devotee.
- One may recite the mantra for however long with a rosary (mala) with a count of 108 times or in any other suitable way as long as the purpose is to serve the spiritual path in oneself.
- The mantra can be recited anytime of day and after the completion of the aarti or pooja, one may sit on the aasan in front of the Goddess and recite the jaap mantra for the benefits of inner and mental peace.
- The mantra that should be recited after pooja and aarti is “Om Devi Mahagauryai Namah”.
- The Dhyan mantra for the jaap is “Poornandu nibhaan gauree somachakrasthitaan ashtaman mahaagauree trinetraam. Varaabheetikaraan trishool damaroodharaan mahaagauree bhajem”.
