Best Day and Time to Recite Kali Maa Aarti
- Tuesday is considered best for the fast or upwas and for Kali Maa pooja and aarti.
- Diwali is known for Mahakali pooja and is the auspicious day for the aarti.
- Mahakali jayanti is also considered best for the Kali Maa pooja.
- At homes or in temples, aarti can be performed in the morning, and as well in the evening after taking a bath and wearing clean clothes.
Offerings in Kali Maa Aarti
- Offerings of khichdi and kheer should be presented before Maa Kali during pooja.
- Rice, lentils and sweets made of milk and dry fruits are offered to Maa Kali before aarti.
- Red hibiscus or rose flowers can be offered to the feet of Maa Kaali, provided you have a picture or idol of Maa Kali.
- A deepak or diya filled with ghee should be lightened with camphor in any earthen diya during the aarti.
- Shankh should be blown, and bells should be ringing during the pooja and after the completion of aarti.
Pooja Vidhi for Kali Maa Aarti
- Puja should be performed using the image of Goddess Kali, stamping on Shiva. It needs to be laid on a red cloth.
- Mustard oil is required to light the lamp. It’s a good idea to give a red shoe flower as a gift. The chandan dhoop should be used.
- Mixed white and black til (sesame) with coconut, mishri, black peppercorns, and red chandan should be offered.
- Til (sesame) based food or bhog should be made available. This bhog (prasad) should be shared with a virgin woman later on.
- A white pumpkin (safed bhopla) should be coated with sindhoor and sliced into two halves before being offered to the Goddess.
- All offerings to the Goddess should be dumped in a forest region that is not visited by humans.
Pooja Mantra or Dhyan Mantra
- The Pooja Mantra or Jaap (Dhyan Mantra) hold significance for the meditating purposes and peace in the spiritual lifestyle of the devotee.
- One may recite the mantra for however long with a rosary (mala) with a count of 108 times or in any other suitable way as long as the purpose is to serve the spiritual path in oneself.
- The mantra can be recited anytime of the day, and after the completion of the aarti or pooja, one may sit on the aasan in front of the Goddess and recite the jaap mantra given below for the benefits of inner and mental peace.
- The mantra that should be recited after pooja and aarti is “Om Kring Kalikaye Namah”.
- The Dhyan mantra for the Jaap is “Om khargang chakra-gadeshu-chapa-parighan shulang bhushundIng shirah shankhang sanda-dhatIng karistri-nayanAng sarbanga-bhushabritam. nIlashma-dyutimasya pada-dashakang sebe maha kalikang yamastou-chhaite harou kamalajye hantung madhung kaitavam”.
