The Couplets

जानतहूँ अस स्वामि बिसारी। फिरहिं ते काहे न होहिं दुखारी।।
“Knowing this, if they still wander, forgetting their Lord, why should they not suffer?”

एहि बिधि कहत राम गुन ग्रामा। पावा अनिर्बाच्य बिश्रामा।।
In this way, narrating the virtues of Lord Rama, Hanuman attained indescribable peace.

पुनि सब कथा बिभीषन कही। जेहि बिधि जनकसुता तहँ रही।।
Vibhishana then narrated the entire story of how Janaki (Sita) was kept there.

तब हनुमंत कहा सुनु भ्राता। देखी चहउँ जानकी माता।।
Then Hanuman said, “Listen, O brother, I wish to see Mother Janaki.”

जुगुति बिभीषन सकल सुनाई। चलेउ पवनसुत बिदा कराई।।
Vibhishana explained the entire plan, and after taking his leave, the son of the Wind God departed.

करि सोइ रूप गयउ पुनि तहवाँ। बन असोक सीता रह जहवाँ।।
Assuming the same small form, he went to the Ashoka grove where Sita resided.

देखि मनहि महुँ कीन्ह प्रनामा। बैठेहिं बीति जात निसि जामा।।
Seeing her, he mentally bowed to her, as she sat there, spending the night.

कृस तन सीस जटा एक बेनी। जपति हृदयँ रघुपति गुन श्रेनी।।
Her body was emaciated, her hair matted in a single braid, as she chanted the virtues of Lord Rama in her heart.

Hanuman expressed his belief that those who wander, forgetting their Lord, are bound to suffer. In this way, narrating the virtues of Lord Rama, Hanuman attained indescribable peace. Vibhishana then narrated the entire story of how Sita was kept in Lanka.

Hanuman expressed his desire to see Mother Sita, and Vibhishana explained the entire plan. After taking his leave, the son of the Wind God departed, assuming the same small form, and went to the Ashoka grove where Sita resided.

The Couplet

निज पद नयन दिएँ मन राम पद कमल लीन।
परम दुखी भा पवनसुत देखि जानकी दीन।।8।।

Her eyes were fixed on her own feet, her mind absorbed in the lotus feet of Rama. The son of the Wind God became extremely sorrowful upon seeing the miserable condition of Janaki.

Sita’s eyes were fixed on her own feet, her mind absorbed in the lotus feet of Rama, the Lord she was devoted to. Upon witnessing the miserable condition of Janaki (Sita), the son of the Wind God, Hanuman, became extremely sorrowful and distressed.
